William and Hannah usually wake up and come into our bed by 6.30am. This morning, most unusually, they decided to play. They walked into our room at 7am proudly wanting to show us Hannah’s new haircut.
I couldn’t talk to Will for an hour.
Even after an attempt at tidying it up, it’s pretty bad. I suppose it will only take a whole year to grow. And some day soon I might be able to look at Hannah without thinking, “Oh. My. Goodness.” The timing is not helpful. We pick up my mum, sister and nephew from the airport tomorrow morning. They’ll have a shock!
After church this morning we farewelled Professor Iraka (pictured above with many of us, he’s the one with distinguished white hair). The professor has been the grandfather for our church service for several years, but is now retiring from his work as a paediatrician at the hospital and returning to his family in Uganda. He lives a few doors down from us so we’ll miss him from a few of our communities – church, hospital and home. He is a great example.
At the farewell party one of the guys in our congregation came up to me (pictured on the right). He said I taught him in grade 5 in Gahini 9 years ago! Amazing. I’ll have to look at the old photos and try to pick him out.
Meanwhile, I’ll try not to look longingly at the photos of Hannah with hair.
Hannah's new hair cut looks like that of some of the girls that I see on the train.
